Week 13 Wine Tastings: Mauricio Lorca Block 1 Malbec

Name: Mauricio Lorca Block 1 Malbec
Varietal: 100% Malbec
Region: Los Arboles
Country: Argentina
Year: 2015
Price: $9.95

Winery Review: "Vibrant blue fruit, perfumed violets and some roasted spices. Full-bodied with genuine fruit that is sweet, but not overly generous. Lots of spice on the mid-palate, which is held together by a dense, fine-tannin framework. Still youthful, indicating outstanding potential ahead."

Wine Folly: "Argentina’s most important variety came by way of France, where it’s commonly called Côt (sounds like “coat”). Wines are loved for their rich, dark fruit flavors and smooth chocolatey finish." With primary flavors of red plum, blackberry, vanilla, sweet tobacco, and cocoa.

Personal Review: This was my favorite wine at this tasting; it was a red that I actually enjoyed. I could really taste the cocoa and chocolate that were listed in the Wine Folly Malbec page. It was smooth and not too powerful like most reds I taste. I was also able to pick up on the vanilla when I smelled it.
